Does the library have a microfiche or microfilm viewer?
Answer
Yes, CSM Library has a ScanPro3000 machine available for use. It is located at the north end of the library on the main floor. It can view microfiche and microfilm and convert them to PDFs.
CSM Library also has a collection of microfilm underneath the stairs on the main floor. The collection includes:
- The San Mateo Times 1901-1990
- The SF Chronicle 1971-1992
The ScanPro3000 is located at the north end of the library near the KIC scanner station. The ScanPro3000 is not connected to the internet so users will need their own USB drive to save files. To use the microfilm scanner:
- Turn on the scanner before you turn on the computer (switch in back)
- Turn on the computer (ignore any messages about an old version of Windows)
- Refer to the handout in the box near the scanner on how to load, wind and view microfilm
- When the you're done with the scanner, rewind the film and leave it in the box next to the machine
For more information, see this handout from Wooster School in Boston (also printed out and available at the scanner station)
